Bi-State hike and Victorian Era Presentation

Denise had to prepare for her BBQ later that evening so Steve and I prepared to hike.  

Van Sickle Bi-State park hovers over the border of California and Nevada.  It took us 3 hours to gain just under 3,000 feet of elevation.  

This part of the hike is one small section of the TRT (Tahoe Rim Trail), which loops around the lake.  

Mountain Pride grows in the strangest places.  

We hiked to the Heavenly Gondola and rode it down.  The view of Tahoe is incredible at 9,200 foot elevation.  

After the hike and a shower we went to the local library.  Denise asked a lady by the name of Paulette Grune to present her creation, "Reflections of the Past", which Denise had seen earlier in the year.

Paulette dresses in Victorian era clothes and talks about what life was like (mostly in the south where she grew up) from 1837-1901.  

It was much better than I imagined, it was mesmerizing to watch as she spoke of Victorian women as if she were one herself, referring to her husband as 'himself' and speaking in first person.  

She showed the audience how women sat down while wearing a birdcage dress.  We were all sorely disappointed when her dress did not go up as it does in movies, or the picture above, so she jokingly forced it up for a picture and a bit of drama.  

Denise is an incredible volunteer.  For her it is not a way to pass the time, but is a way of life.  Anyone feeling guilty for not giving back, or is it just me?

During the BBQ one of their neighbors came over to ask if we were interested in throwing some fresh caught Kokanee salmon on the BBQ (the answer to this question is always 'yes').  A Haerr friend showed me the best technique for BBQing the delicate fish.  

What a day!  There is always something to do in Tahoe, especially if you are a Haerr, or with one.
