It is 57 degrees in Astoria right now.
Yes please!
As we prepare to leave Boardman I would say goodbye to the Columbia River but we are not going to have to do that for a few weeks.
We will be paralleling the river (as well as Washington state) for most of our drive.
And then, of course, Astoria is located at the mouth of the river.
Our plan until today was to stop at Multnomah Falls along the drive but our plans were thwarted. The off-ramp/visitor center/viewing areas/parking lot is closed due to Covid. They had it open in March for about a week after March 16, but people were not social distancing so the decision was made to close. (Dang it People, why can you not follow simple directions!?)
I hope it opens back up while we are still here, but if not we will have to put it off until the next time. That is the nice thing about loving to travel. There will always be a next time.
Long metal bridges passing over the Columbia River are a common sight.
Common but not underappreciated.
Welcome!!
This is where we will be calling home for the next three weeks.
Yep, this will do just fine.
Oh man, I'm sorry about the Falls and COVID. It has been weird for us, too. I wrote this in a snail mail that will be waiting for you when/if you return...
ReplyDeleteIt made me think of the quote by Khang Kijarro Nguyen , “Take a detour. Discover small towns and friendly faces that don't grow along the highway.”
That said, I would say the most difficult aspect of exploring, during the time of COVID-19, is the fact that though we see friendly faces, they are masked and we are forbidden from talking with them. The fear stops the ability to be social. It is what it is but it’s sad.
I love your home in Astoria. So dang fun. I wish we were connecting in OR.
