The piers are back open!
So this is what freedom feels like. Ha. That is a joke.
We walked about four miles today from our house to the Marina Inn (seen behind us in the photo below).
The piers and parking lots in Oceanside opened up on the 9th of June.
I don't think that fisherman realize it yet. This fishing pier is usually a popular spot.
Hello sea lion!
There were not a lot of sea lions in their typical spot, but how many do you need when there is a smiling baby?
Just the one is the answer.
The popemobile always has the best views.
In front of the Oceanside Yacht Club (formed in 1963) we found this old rusted scale that must have been installed upon their inauguration.
I love Oceanside Harbor. Good thing Camp Pendleton was willing to give up 68 acres of their beach front land so we can all enjoy it. Camp Pendleton originally said no to the concept of a harbor on their land but a year later, in 1958, the base agreed to lease the land to the city. Then later that year the land was sold to the city for half of the appraised value. Voters approved the formation of the harbor in 1960 and in 1963 it was completed and inaugurated. The entire project cost about seven million dollars.
Now the harbor is home to so many organizations, businesses, animals, plants and people.
Wow, thank you so much for this encouragement that life is slowly moving forward. What a spectacular day you shared. I love the sweet baby sea lion's face. Where are the others? Normally there are so many. Are they physically distancing? I love that scale at the Oceanside Yacht Club. I want to know the history of that, too.
