Mission San Luis Rey de Francia in Oceanside is a national landmark.
The Spanish mission was founded in 1798 and is the largest mission in California.
This cross is a monument to the Luiseños converts who built and maintained the mission.
This is the oldest cemetery in North County San Diego, and is still in operation.
The cemetery gates at the mission were replaced in the 1950s by Walt Disney Studios, for the filming of numerous episodes of Zorro.
I guess Disney had no qualms about remodeling historic landmarks for the sake of television ratings.
In the distance you are witnessing the oldest pepper tree in California. Pepper trees are native to South America. In the 1830s, pepper tree seeds were brought to San Luis Rey from Peru.
Luiseños did their laundry did their laundry outdoors in this lavandería.
Just another beautiful, historic day in Oceanside.
