The West (Day 1)- Oceanside, CA to Las Vegas, NV

The only thing better than summer vacation is traveling during summer vacation.
Considering the pandemic we decided to stay fairly local and stick with the West (which means traveling the South will be postponed until next year).

We won't be visiting every state in the west, but about half.
The gist of our trip is a loop through Capital Reef National Park and Idaho Falls, continuing on to our house near Astoria, and then a drive down the 101 back to Oceanside.
Godspeed, my baby.
She LOVES traveling.
A1 couldn't contain herself knowing we were leaving today.

These eyes need eyes on something new.

We picked up our trailer in Rainbow and started the trek northeast.
(Our Scamp has the best view when it isn't in use, and when it is in use.  Lucky Scamp.)

Six hours later we were in Vegas, Baby.
Oasis RV Campground is new to us, but we will definitely be back.
It is clean and quiet and right off the 15 freeway, close to the strip.

Since we will be at Capital Reef for a few nights we took advantage of being surrounded by restaurants.  We ate at Devil Dog tonight, which is loaded with good reviews online.
I ordered the elote veggie dog and Eric had meat ones, of course.
Good thing we ordered ahead for pickup, Eric said there was a line that looked like a line at Space Mountain (pre-pandemic) over summer, on the weekend.
We miss Disneyland.
But we don't miss specialty hot dogs, because we ate them, tonight.  Dang these are good.

Today and tomorrow is just about getting through the desert.  We drove just over 300 miles today (going 55 mph) and will do about 330 tomorrow.  Good thing our little girl is one tough cookie.

  1. We have stayed at Oasis RV when traveling to VegaS with a rig. It is a lovely spot and feels so removed from the downtown. I hope you got to see a little of the neon before you head out tomorrow.

You have an amazing adventure planned and I will be tuned in to catch it as it unfolds.

Enjoy it all. The South will be there when you're ready.
