Colombia/Panama Day 6: Cartagena- Boca Grande

I spent most of the day at Boca Grande (just a few miles from San Diego), trying to sleep.  It was almost impossible to sleep with all of the vendors trying to make a living.  Unfortunately, they are not discouraged by closed eyes.
CREM HELADO, CREM HELADO! HAY PESCADOS, PESCADOS!  CAMERONES, CAMERONES!  HAY AGUA FRIA, AGUA FRIA! AGUILITA, AGUILITA! GAFAS, GAFAS! MANGOS, MANGOS!  UN MASAJE, SI NO AHORA, MAS TARDE, SI?, MASAJE!
It is very important to repeat everything twice, in case no one heard you the first time you yelled it.

Okay, so I bought a popsicle.  These are way better than ice cream trucks because they are found all over the place.  If they were smart they would just follow me around all day.

After about four hours in the sun and a few times in the water I decided it was time to go (actually it was when my little tent I rented collapsed in on itself... I thought it was a sign).
Something happened after this moment that I am still in disbelief over... A taxi driver rejected me!  At first he asked if I was sandy or wet.  I told him just sandy.  He said I was too sandy and that I should find another taxi and drove off!

After attempting to brush off, I found another taxi, jumping in before he could get a good look at me, I went to El Exito.  I had to make a video because photos cannot express how crazy Cartagena is.  It is a complete 180 from Bogota.  I have been to this store four times now and it is always like this, how I imagine Florida looks when there is a hurricane in the forecast.  Cartagena is beautiful but it is loud and disorganized and busy, and unlike any city I have ever been to.  It is crazy here.

  1. OMG, El Exito is super cool. What a bunch of people. Are they under staffed, slow or just crazy popular? Wow.

Funny about the beach. Love the different vendor photos. Sorry your couldn't get a nap in :o( Looks like you had fun trying though. Great post. Interesting about how unique you found the town. Did this surprise you?

    Glad you're doing well.
