Día 5- Arcos de la frontera y Cádiz

This car had it coming, it was parked terribly (half in the street, for days) which just makes driving harder for everyone.
The picture speaks for itself so I will just translate the writing, "park well with your dead body, I say!"  It almost sounds like he is being challenged to a duel!

I couldn't stand to think that our rental car had to eventually come out of this crazy maze, so we decided to spend the day in Cádiz, about 45 min. away, and just get it over with.  Since parking is hard to come by in Cádiz, and I much prefer to take public transit, we drove the 30 min to Jerez de la Frontera and then took the train to  Cádiz.

A picture says a thousand words.

GPS is the best!
Otherwise rondas (roundabouts) can be a little tricky.
I would like to mention/ proclaim that not one car has honked at me so far.

The Jerez train station is gorgeous.

Not in the mood for seafood or tapas, we had pizza and sangria.
The best part- the restaurant was air conditioned!

We said we weren't in the mood.

Cádiz is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain.  Many Latin American cities have been modeled after Cádiz.  I know that colonized cities are the result of so much death, oppression and slavery but they are beautiful nonetheless and are among the places that I always visit when in Latin America, and I get to see the original.

La catedral de Cádiz took over 120 years to build.
I love the M.C. Escher tile work.

Bell towers don't just provide a view, but relief from the heat.
There is always a nice breeze at the top.

Don't you just hate it when you don't have postcards to mail?
This little beauty was in front of the post office.

Cádiz was the perfect day trip from Arcos.  Although we were only there for a few hours I felt like we stayed just long enough.

It will be much easier to find the car in New Town, versus Old Town, Arcos (we parked right next to these masked devotees), not to mention it is so much easier to park here.  Even if we had to pay a scammer 0.50€ to keep an eye on our car for the night.

Eric was sooooo excited about getting a hamburgesa, and then sooooo disappointed.

¡Buenas noches, Arcos!

  1. Wow. We had visited Cádiz twice. However, I love seeing your take on the city, however. You do find the cool stuff. AND your photos are exceptional.

I absolutely love the evening in Arcos. It reminds me so much of our time together in Spoleto. Keep up having fun AND sharing.
