Bangkok nightlife

Fred and I didn't go out much at night. One night, however, we wanted to do some shopping in Silom district. This picture was taken from inside our tuk tuk (an auto rickshaw). Almost all the tuk tuks have lights inside which light up and turn off as you drive.  It definitely added to the excitement of being in a rickshaw.

After about 8 the whole district changed its vibe.  Although there were many tourists (some with small children and teenagers) walking around shopping buying souvenirs we were being handed inappropriate fliers, and being invited into strip clubs, etc.
We were not in a gay district. The signs for 'hot male bar' means that males should enter, and it will be 'hot'.

I am pretty sure these women handing out menus to passersby are not waitresses...
Although this is what people think of when they think of Thailand we did not see it throughout our entire 18-day trip, except for this one evening in this one district. We were glad to have seen it though.  As sad as it it for these women, prostitution is part of Thai culture.

  1. We are not ones to venture out into the night but every now and then you have to see that "side" of a city. May those waitresses were really waitresses but they just have a really UNIQUE menu. Love the rickshaw.
