Day 1 in Catalina: Kayak, snorkel, hike

Fred and I rented a tandem kayak at Descanso Beach Club and headed northeast.  The visibility was 30-40 feet.  Crazy!  (That we are not on the metric system I mean.)

Fred is definitely someone you want around when it comes to water sports.  He knows all about kayaking technique, as well as snorkeling, and scuba.

Our first snorkel.
Garibaldi look like grumpy old men.

Our second snorkel had even better visibility than the first.
The blue of the Garibaldi's eyes were so vibrant.

After we returned the kayak we changed into hiking clothes and did a loop from Wrigley's Memorial Botanical Garden to Hermit Gulch Campground via Divide Road.

It was just 4 miles, but the views were incredible.

This is what happens when I give Fred the camera.

(Notice I am not zooming in on any body parts.)

Avalon view from the top.
